Recent road safety data analyses in Vietnam show that motorcyclists account for the vast majority of serious and fatal crashes.
The science-of-speed principle demonstrates that even a small reduction in speed can change the outcome of a crash.
With technical support from Vital Strategies and in close coordination with WHO Vietnam, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City launched “Slow Down for Your Safety and Everyone’s” in honor of World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims in November. Grounded in the science-of-speed principle, the campaign targeted young male motorcycle riders who frequently commute and are more likely to exceed posted speed limits or feel confident in their ability to react quickly. Both cities maximized communication channels, including local TV, social media, posters, banners, LED screens in public places and enforcement visibility.
